The problem with exam prep
The exam is fixed. Your memory of each lesson is not.
Exam students come with a deadline. Every lesson has to move them closer to a target score, and every lesson you forget to write up is a lesson you may have to repeat.
With four or five exam students a week, the details blur: which reading question type tripped one student up, which essay structure another one finally got. Jotmonk writes it down while you teach, so the weak topics stay in view until they are fixed.
Ordered food in Spanish without switching to English
Used the past tense correctly for one-off events
Asked follow-up questions on her own
What changes for you
Plan the next lesson from the last one, in minutes.
Weak topics stay visible
Each lesson note lists what the student struggled with, so the next lesson starts in the right place.
Strengths you can build on
What the student now does well, so you stop spending time on what is already secure.
Progress you can show
Lesson after lesson, you and your student see what has improved before exam day.
- Past tense reviewCovered
- Interview questions 1 to 6Partly covered
- Role play: salaryNot covered
What changes for your student
Practice that comes out of the lesson itself.
Your student leaves every lesson with a short recap: what was covered, what went well, which mistakes to fix and exactly what to practice. Homework names the paper, the section and the question type, so it is easy to start.
For students under 18, notes can go to the parent or guardian, so families see the work being done between mock exams.
- Cambridge 17, Test 2, Reading passage 3
- Rewrite the essay intro using the two linking phrases we practiced
- Record a two-minute answer: describe a place you visited
Open tasks carry into the next lesson's focus.

Every exam subject
Language tests, school exams and professional exams.
Jotmonk works for language and non-language subjects. IELTS and TOEFL speaking, SAT maths, GCSE science, bar exam essays, medical school interviews: the notes follow what was taught and said.
Keep the exam goal on each student's page, so every lesson note is read against the target. When you want the bigger picture, a progress report pulls the lessons together for a check-in with the student or their family.
