Most homework is set in the last two minutes and forgotten by the next lesson. Jotmonk writes it down from what was actually said and keeps it in view until it is done.
- Write five sentences about last weekend in the past tense
- Listen to the podcast episode we chose and note three new words
- Tutor: send the ser vs estar worksheet
Open tasks carry into the next lesson's focus.
Why homework slips
Set in a rush, forgotten by Thursday.
The lesson runs over. You say “do exercise four and listen to that podcast” as the student is leaving. Neither of you writes it down. Next week you both remember it differently.
Jotmonk hears the homework when you set it and puts it in the note, with the exact page, task or link you mentioned.
Mistake to fix
“I am agree” → “I agree”
Please confirm
Was “bajo” about the price or the volume?
Tasks for both sides
What the student does, and what you promised.
For the student
What to practice, read or build before next time.
For the tutor
What you promised: a worksheet, a link, a correction to check.
Carried forward
Open tasks appear in the next lesson's focus, so nothing gets dropped.
- Cambridge 17, Test 2, Reading passage 3
- Rewrite the essay intro using the two linking phrases we practiced
- Record a two-minute answer: describe a place you visited

Next lesson
Start by checking what was done.
When the next lesson begins, the open homework is waiting at the top. Ask about it first, then build on it. Students who know their work will be looked at do more of it.
Over a term, a progress report shows how much homework was set and completed, which is useful at a parent check-in.

- Interview questions 1 to 6Partly covered
- Role play: salaryNot covered
Why it matters
Students who know exactly what to do between lessons arrive ready. Tutors who keep their promises keep their students. Homework is where a one-hour lesson becomes a week of learning.
